Ohaji-Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State turned bloody last weekend, when cultists killed nine people while avenging the killing of one their members by another rival group. The victims including eight males and one female were killed when the DEEWELL cult group reportedly invaded Assa Awara community.
The killing of the nine persons was said to have been carried out by DEEWELL against the DEEGBAM cult group, which was alleged to have killed one of the DEEWELL members in the area. This was even as a traditional ruler and two other of his accomplices were detained at the Owerri, the Imo State capital for allegedly killing one Joseph Ihueze over a parcel of land in the same area.
Police sources said that the deceased who was insane inherited a large portion of land from his father, but the traditional ruler and two other persons killed him to enable them take over the land. The killing however, irked youths who revolted against the traditional ruler causing tension in the area.
