Unprotected lovemaking puts lovers at health risks due to the prevalence of diseases as a result of infidelity among partners most times.
During the heat of s*xual ecstasy, things can really go fast from foreplay to s*x and partners may not even remember to use condoms.
Unprotected s*x is s*xual intercourse without the use of a barrier method of contraception. This can be either the male or the female condom. Unprotected s*xual intercourse increases the risk of contacting/ transmitting HIV, STD and unwanted pregnancy.
I have seen a lot of people overwhelmed with anxiety after having unprotected sexual intercourse with some indulging in acts that does not only sound ridiculous but also increases their chance of contacting STD or even affecting their health adversely. Douching is one of such. Generally, women are discouraged from douching because it alters the normal bacteria flora of the v*gina which keeps it healthy and free from invading pathogens.
If you douche after s*x, it increases the chance of contacting STD and it doesn’t prevent pregnancy and HIV infection. Myths like ingestion of herbal medicines, insertion of caustic soda, ingesting OTCs like ampicillin and aspirin have not been proven scientifically to be effective in preventing unwanted pregnancies and infection with STD. In this article, we will review on things you must do if you have unprotected s*x.
1. Take Emergency contraceptive pills
This is one of the surest ways of preventing unwanted pregnancy after having unprotected sexual intercourse. You will have to take emergency contraceptives in form of emergency contraceptives pills. Emergency contraceptive pills also referred to as morning after pills are is used to prevent pregnancy. There can be obtained with a doctor’s prescription or as an over the counter drug (OTC) in drug stores. A commonly used form of EC is Postinor 2 which is taken within 72 hours after having unprotected sexual intercourse. It contains Levonorgestrel which is a synthetic form of a female reproductive hormone that prevents implantation hence pregnancy doesn’t occur.
2. Ask for an Intra-Uterine Device (IUD)
If after 72 hours, then you must contact your health care provider for an emergency IUD. IUD is tiny rod-like devices inserted into the uterus (womb) by your doctor. There distort cervical mucus and prevents the implantation of the egg. If inserted properly and within 5 days, it is highly effective with an efficacy rate of about 98%. It is important to note that EC and IUD don’t give any protection nor prevent STD and HIV infection.
3. Test for STD and HIV
Fears of infection with STD or the dreaded killer disease HIV is heightened after unprotected sexual intercourse. It is mandatory that you test to screen for STD and HIV. If possible, such test should be conducted with your s*xual partner. STD to be tested for includes Hepatitis B and C, gonorrhea, syphilis and chlamydia. This can be carried out with blood samples or via a vaginal/ penile swab. However, results gotten from an early test are inconclusive hence test must be repeated after 6 months for cases of HIV and Hepatitis. Testing after having unprotected s*xual intercourse allays fear/ anxiety and increases the chance of early diagnosis, prevention and treatment of sexually transmitted disease.
4. Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP)
PEP is essential after a high risk unprotected sexual intercourse. This includes cases of rape by an unknown assailant, s*xual intercourse with an individual living with HIV or unprotected sexual intercourse with a partner with known multiple s*xual partners. You must visit a health facility that provides such services and after counseling and series of test, you will be commenced on PEP for a duration of one month. The drugs have been noted to be 99% effective in preventing HIV if commenced within 72 hours. PEP provides protection against HIV but not to other STD. However, you will have to do another HIV test after 6 months to be declared free from the deadly disease.
5. Keep calm and watch for symptoms
Unprotected s*x may happen unexpectedly or as a result of carelessness from both partners. Once it has occurred, there is little of no need for panic. You should keep calm and watch out for symptoms after undergoing the initial screening test for STD and HIV. Symptoms make take 2 weeks or more to manifest. If after unprotected s*x, you begin to experience v*ginal itching, v*ginal or penile discharge, severe burning pain on urinating, sores or ulcers around your external genitals then it is advisable that you consult your doctor for further evaluation and treatment.

A Harare man has been paying his wife for ‘services’ rendered.
Lloyd Nyamutswa of Waterfalls said his wife Rudo Jonga started acting suspiciously some three months ago when she started demanding payment to the tune of $100 per s*x session and when he wanted to have another sh would demand another $100.
“She is always demanding money and I sometimes give her up to $500. She demands money for s.ex and I pay $100 per round She says if I want to continue I should give her more,” Lloyd bared out his soul after finding ‘se.xts’ between his wife and her boyfriend.
Lloyd said his eight year marriage to Rudo had headed for total collapse after the discovery, through steamy texts, that his wife was having a an affair with one Richard Madzodza.
“Now she is demanding that I buy her a car if I want to have a second child with her,” he lamented.
Lloyd said the unusual behaviour started when Rudo began coming home late in the early hours of the morning under the guise of all night prayer vigils.
“She started leaving home around 5pm and staying out the whole night only coming home the next morning around 3am. When I asked her, she would say she would be at an all night prayer but I was never requested to accompany her,” he said
A visibly distraught Lloyd said his wife always turned violent whenever confronted and she would end up beating him as well as insulting him such that he had to lodge police reports several times.
He added that his wife is now taking the infamous cough syrup Broncleer and other drugs leading to very absurd behaviour.
Lloyd said he first discovered of his wife’s infidelity when he came across messages between her and Arnold Dzikiti’s in her phone in 2014. “When I discovered the affair, Arnold confessed that he was indeed in love with my wife. She apologised and said she would change but she is back to her old ways. Some of the messages which have convinced Lloyd that his wife is cheating with Richard Madzodza include: “u keep me going bby it dsnt make sense when u not here, Hapana kana chinoita sense. Come lets start our family baby, come lets start this journey together empress…”
Rudo replied to one of Madzodza’s texts saying: “luv u hun, u making my days brighter moyo“.
Contacted for a comment, Richard professed ignorance to the fact that Rudo was married. “She never told me that she was married, she actually said she was divorced bra. I now realise I wasted my time sincendaitofirirawo waiziya? Ha…Rudo should not do that. We should not fight(with Lloyd) because tese takabhaizwa wazviona manje,” he confessed over the phone

Wonders shall never end!..Residents of Asaba, Delta State are yet to recover from the shock of how a 19-year-old Godwin (pseudonym) allegedly impregnated his mother while testing his love charm.
According to Daily Post, the boy, famously known as Ekenem, was said to have gone to a native doctor, who allegedly prepared a love charm for him to use on his mother and one of the matrons in the college where he is a boarding student.
It was gathered that the husband of the woman, who has been away for some time outside his Port Harcourt operational base, denied being responsible for the pregnancy during interrogation.
But the victim, the suspect’s mother, while speaking to journalists said,
“I did not know how it all happened, but all I can say is that a young man who looked like my son suddenly found his way into my room at the wee hours and I was speechless”, adding that the whole exercise had remained inexplicable.Speaking at the police headquarters to journalists, the suspect said, “I am deeply sorry for all that has happened, I did not mean to do this. I saw myself falling in love with her after the love charm prepared for me.I have to confess because I know by so doing, God will touch her mind and I know she will forgive me. I suddenly found that I was making love to mum when I thought the charm will not work, and upon the revelation, I threatened to kill her and the matter was reported to the police”, he said.
DSP Celestina Kalu, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, who confirmed the report, disclosed that the boy had since been arrested over threat to life.

This is the brutal and bloody end for a lion which was shot dead after it escaped from a national park in Kenya and attacked a man. The dark-maned lion was gunned down by the Kenya Wildlife Service after it was spotted roaming in the Kajiado district, 35 miles from the capital Nairobi. Pictures show the trained ranger taking aim at the animal which crumples to the ground as shots are fired.
