Cultists, on Sunday, killed two policemen attached to the Rumuji Police Divisional Headquarters and five other persons during a clash in the area. It was learned that a war erupted between the Icelanders and the Greenlanders cult groups in Rumuji and Ovogo communities, Emohua Local Government Area of River State, leading to the death of many persons. The Icelanders invaded the area in search of the Greenlanders, who had taken over the communities after their clash last month.
A source in the area, who pleaded anonymity, disclosed that on arrival, the Icelanders shot dead two policemen at a check point in the area. The source said that the cultists later entered Rumuji community and allegedly killed about three persons before making straight to Ovogo, where two persons were reportedly killed. The source also disclosed that the bandits set ablaze over six houses believed to be owned by members of their rival cult group in the area. It was further gathered that the Greenlanders, who were resident in the area, on noticing that the rival cult members were around also went on rampage. The community source said the shootings and killings by the cultists forced the residents of the area to flee for safety.
