THE kidnapped lecturer of the University of Port Harcourt, Dr. Reginald Ohiri, regained his freedom on Tuesday night from the hands of his abductors. The victim was said to have been freed by his abductors after they later found out that he was not their target.
Ohiri, who is a lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry in UNPORT, was abducted on the eve of Monday from his resident in Aluu community, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State. The gunmen, who whisked Ohiri away at gunpoint Monday night, later demanded N2 million ransom for his release. It was gathered when the abductors confirmed that Ohiri was not their target, they allegedly granted him freedom. Confirming the release on Wednesday, the Management of the University of Port Harcourt, said the lecturer had returned home.
