A Reverend Father attached to the Catholic Church in Issele Azagba, an agrarian community in Aniocha South local government area of Delta state, Revd Jude Oyenibadi, has been kidnapped by yet to be identified gunmen.
The kidnap saga was blown open on Monday when a former member of the erstwhile government of Emmanuel Uduaghan told NAIJ.com that the Revd. Father was kidnapped at the weekend in his farm in Issele Uku area of the state. When contacted, the Delta state police public relations officer, Andrew Aniamaka, confirmed the kidnap of the priest.
He said the entire Delta police command is working round the clock to rescue the priest unhurt and apprehend the culprits, adding that it is a sad news for the command in the state.
When asked whether any contact has been made to the family and ransom demanded, the police image maker declined to comment on that.
He rather said: “I will plead with you to talk less on this. I will be very happy soon to announce to you our success. You should help us as we too need your prayers to succeed. Our men are in the field, even my CP is his toes on this matter.”
Besides being a Revd. Father, the priest is a great farmer known for farming wide expanse of land with pineapples where he has made much money to sponsor some Deltans to higher schools in the state.
When NAIJ.com visited the church in Issele Azagba to ascertain the situation on ground, church members in the vicarage, declined comment, saying the priest authorised to speak to the press was in a crucial meeting with elders of the church.
