SP Mbalu was abducted at about 4pm on  March 5 on his way to Asaba after spending the weekend with his family at Agbor and since then, he had been kept incommunicado by his captors until the news of his killing filtered in on Friday.

Although when contacted on the telephone, the state commissioner of police, Zannah Ibrahim, refuted the death of the officer in the hands of his abductors, adding that the report of his death lacked credibility.
But a reliable source who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that the decomposing corpse of the DPO was found in Umunede bush on Friday morning, adding that the entire command was in somber mood over the killing.
Our source added that some suspects, including a Fulani herdsman, had been arrested in connection with his abduction.
The Umunede bush has been a safe haven for kidnappers as other victims including the corpse of the traditional ruler of Ubulu-Uku, HRM Edward Akaeze Ofulue III who was kidnapped in similar manner was also found dead in the area in 2016.
CP Ibrahim added, “It’s not true. We are still investigating his abduction. If somebody dies, are we going to hide it? All these stories are hear-say. Wait and hear from the horse’s mouth when it is right.”
