Police have arrested kingpin of a cult group, Friday Alike aka Nillo, who allegedly killed a 36-year-old man, Chinedu Godwin, in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State with machete. Chinedu, a native of Isioma, was killed by suspected cultists on April 8 at Onyiba filling station during a clash between members of Caring Heart and Aiye confraternities.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Jude Madu, said in a statement that members of the cult group had been terrorising the people of Onicha Local Government Area.He said: “These cultists killed one Chinedu Godwin and since then, we have been trailing the suspects. Investigation has commenced by Homicide Section of State Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Abakaliki, Ebonyi State Police Command.
“The investigative efforts yielded fruits as the killers were identified as members of Caring Heart secret cult majorly based in Onicha Local Government Area. “The Caring Heart cult group claimed they were actually on revenge against the Aye cult group for killing their member.
Unfortunately late Chinedu Godwin was the only person believed to be a member of Aye that they could see and they killed him with machete. “Among the members of Caring Heart cult group that are suspected to have murdered Chinedu Godwin are Friday Alike aka Nillo and Okechukwu Abel of same village mentioned above have been arrested.
“The leader of the murder group for Caring Heart cult group: Friday Alike aka Nillo was arrested with his locally-made double-barrelled pistol. Also recovered from Friday Alike aka Nillo are (a) a bag containing reasonable quantity of Indian hemp; and (b) a military coloured knickers.
“He claimed that Caring Heart cult group is actually a cult group formed by politicians in the local government for political purposes. “He also confessed that he buys arms and Indian of Caring Heart secret cult majorly based in Onicha Local Government Area.
“The Caring Heart cult group claimed they were actually on revenge against the Aye cult group for killing their member. Search warrant was executed in the residence of the said James Agbafor and the following items were recovered from him: 30 new machetes; (b) 59 live cartridges. Nillo is still helping the police to mention the other members of his cult group and the politicians they are working for.”
