A marriage celebration ended on a sad note on Sunday after a groom shot dead a guest just few hours after his wedding.
According to Daily Sun ZA, the incident happened at Ehlanzeni Village in Eshowe, northern KZN leaving the family of the victim, Delani Mabaso (18) from Gcininhliziyo Village, devastated.
Speaking after the incident, the victim's sister, Ntombifuthi Sibiya (32), said her family was left with many unanswered questions after the incident that killed her brother and left another person wounded.
“We don’t know what happened before he was shot.
“People told us Delani was just in the wrong place at the wrong time as the suspect was trying to break up a crowd of villagers who were fighting.
“Others told us the scene of the crime was many metres away from where the fight took place. We don’t know who to believe.”
Ntombifuthi said after receiving a call about what had happened, she rushed to the scene and found her brother dead.
“My heart broke when I saw him lying dead. This man didn’t have to end my brother’s life,” she said.
Ntombifuthi said her family hoped the suspect would explain in court why he shot her brother.
Lieutenant-Colonel Thulani Zwane confirmed that Eshowe detectives had arrested a 38-year-old suspect for murder and attempted murder on Sunday, after a fight broke out between young men.
“A firearm was confiscated and the suspect will appear in the Eshowe Magistrates Court soon,” said Zwane.
