Bukola Ogun, a 37 year old Ibadan business woman, who confessed to have arranged her kidnap to fraudulently obtain large sum of money from her husband has been arrested by the Oyo state Police Command.
According to The Nation, two kidnap suspects, Kayode Adepoju (37) and Olalekan Annanfi (34) who carried out the deal were also arrested in their hideout at Imalefalafia area of Ibadan by the police.
Looking dejected, in a blue spotted gown, Ogun who told newsmen that her intention was to force her husband to submit to her request to help her travel to the United States of America said she didn’t know it would get her into trouble.
Mrs Ogun was among the 12 criminal suspects paraded by the Oyo state Police Command, Eleyele, Ibadan.
Briefing newsmen, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Abiodun Odude explained how men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the state Police Command arrested the woman who masterminded her own kidnap along with two others.
“The incident happened at about 7.45 pm on July 4, 2017 when three armed hoodlums stormed the residence of the supposed victim and ‘kidnapped’ her to an unknown destination. Barely four hours later, the suspects contacted victims’ husband and demanded N10m ransom as a condition for his wife’s release.
“Unknown to him that the kidnap was actually arranged by his wife, the hapless husband reported the case to the police. Following the report, operatives of the Special Ant-Robbery Squad began a man-hunt for the hoodlums.
“During intensive investigation and reach, two male suspects were arrested, who let out the cat out of the bag as operatives were stunned to discover that the victim was the architect of the fathom kidnap. To pull the wool over everyone’s eyes, the woman lodged in a hotel at Imalefalafia area of Ibadan for three days while frantic efforts were being made to rescue her.”
Mrs Ogun who felt remorse for her inordinate ambition told newsmen that she decided to go back home after spending three days in the hotel room.
“Anyway, I got home myself on Saturday. It’s like my husband called everybody that I was kidnapped. I walked home myself”, she stated.
On why she framed her kidnap, she said “nothing, I just wake up one day, I just decided I want my husband take out of the country, so that he can use his American citizenship passport to take me out of the country. It all started like a child play. That’s all. ”
The state Commissioner of Police who also paraded nine other criminal suspects listed items recovered to include four arms, 23 live ammunition , two vehicles, inverters, iron cutters , cables, and cutlass .
Abayomi Gbenga (24), leader of armed robbery gang who specialized in robbing telecommunication masts at Tede, Sepeteri, Igboho, and Ogboro in Saki area of Oyo state were arrested by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in their hideouts.
The bandits, who were armed with guns, cutlasses, and other dangerous weapons, were said to have attacked telecoms companies’ security guards before carting away various inverters and other equipment belonging to the telecom companies.
Other armed robbery suspects are Ayilara Ahmed (24), Bamimore Nurudeen (32), Adedokun Opeyemi(19), and Bakare Farouk (19) .
The suspects who confessed to have carried different armed robbery operations in the state were found with one locally made pistol, forty eight inverters, a Peugeot 505 saloon car with registration number ET 246 APP , a long cutlass and three iron cutters.
The state Commissioner said all the suspects would soon be arraigned in court after investigations have been concluded.
