Sources said residents could not tell who dumped the baby but that they must have been alerted by her cries.
“Obviously not knowing what to do, they took the baby to the police station,” a source said.
When contacted, the Kubwa DPO, CSP Nurudeen Sabo, confirmed the incident saying that the baby was still in the hospital as at press time yesterday.
“The baby is on oxygen, they said mucus is coming out from the umbilical cord and private part. She is still receiving treatment,” he said.
CSP Sabo said the baby was responding to treatment and would be taken to an orphanage after her medication.
He said the police were making effort to track the mother.
He said the police would use appropriate methods to track mothers of abandoned babies.

A day-old baby abandoned near a transformer opposite Phase Three Junction on the Kubwa expressway is in critical state at the Kubwa General Hospital.
