Some catholic priests have escaped being fatally battered in their own parish in Imos State.
Tragedy was averted weekend as three Catholic priests at the Parish House of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Umualumaku, Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State escaped being lynched by armed robbers.
The five-man gang gained entry into the chancery at about 3a.m on Sunday, tied the priests up and demanded for N5 million.
According to Vanguard learnt, they were disposed of valuables, including mobile phones, laptops, wrist watches and some cash,
The priests included the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Anthony Dieme, his curate, Rev. Fr. Christian Obioha and a resident priest, Rev. Fr. Innocent Obiukwu, who is taking refuge in the parish after surviving onslaught from the Boko Haram insurgents in the North-East.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Andrew Enwerem said investigation into the incident has commenced.
He vowed that the command will arrest the culprits and prosecute them accordingly.
